A TikTok Ads agency account is one of the key tools for media buyers running TikTok traffic. It has higher limits, gets banned less often at launch and gives you access to support. But along with the upsides you get a dependency on an intermediary, and autumn 2026 showed this clearly: the market is discussing a wave of TikTok agency account bans, with teams losing accounts along with their deposits.

Let's break down how an agency account works, how it differs from self-registration, where to get one and how to work without losing money.

What a TikTok Ads agency account is

There are two ways to get an ad account.

  • Self-serve registration. You sign up for TikTok Ads Manager yourself and link your own card. It's fast and free, but fresh accounts have low trust, small limits and frequent bans at launch.
  • Agency account. The agency creates the account in its Business Center — a hub for managing accounts and assets — and gives you access. Dealing with the platform and paying for ads goes through the agency.

TikTok's help center says that when you create a Business Center, you choose a business type: agency or advertiser. An agency can create ad accounts and share access to them with partners, meaning you, setting permissions for each account.

Self-serve vs agency TikTok Ads account: trust, limits, payment, contract, fees and risks

Pros of an agency account

  • Higher trust from the start. Accounts from an agency Business Center with history usually get banned less often on first launches than fresh self-serve accounts.
  • Higher spend limits. You can scale a working funnel faster without hitting daily caps.
  • No card of your own needed. You top up your balance with the agency — usually in crypto or by transfer — and the agency pays for the ads.
  • Support. Larger agencies usually have a manager on TikTok's side, so moderation issues get resolved faster.
  • Many accounts at once. You can get a separate account for each funnel, geo or media buyer.

Cons and risks

  • You don't have the contract with TikTok. For the platform, the client is the agency. Your rights to the account and the money rest only on your agreements with the provider.
  • Dependence on the intermediary's finances. If the agency runs on postpaid terms and doesn't pay its TikTok invoices, all its accounts are at risk, including yours.
  • Fees. Providers take a percentage of every top-up, so ads cost more than on self-serve accounts.
  • Bans still happen. Agency accounts get blocked for ad policy violations too, and the platform doesn't review permanent bans.

How the money flows and why it's hard to get back

To understand the risk, you need to know how TikTok bills. In its billing options help page, TikTok describes three options:

  • Manual payment (prepaid). You deposit 100% up front, then the ads run. Ads can't spend more than the balance.
  • Automatic payment. Your card is charged when you reach a threshold or on the billing date.
  • Monthly invoicing (postpaid). Available to eligible businesses. You're invoiced monthly and have 30 days to pay.

Large agencies often work on postpaid terms: they run clients' ads on credit and pay TikTok later. While everything's fine, it's convenient for everyone. But if the agency stops paying, the platform goes after the agency, and your balance with the agency is just its internal accounting. TikTok also states that suspended agency accounts can't be used to add funds, and refunds for them follow a separate process.

How money flows in a TikTok agency account: top-up with the agency, postpaid billing and why deposits get stuck

Where to get a TikTok agency account

  • Official TikTok partner agencies. They work with companies, ask for documents and a minimum budget, but give you a contract and transparent terms.
  • Agencies and services for media buyers. Built for media buyers: quick start, crypto payments, accounts for different verticals. This is where vetting the provider matters most.
  • Resellers. They resell accounts from a larger agency. Usually cheaper, but they add another link between you and TikTok, which means another point of failure.

If you already work with Facebook, the logic is the same as with Facebook agency accounts: the shorter the chain to the platform and the clearer the contract, the lower the risk.

How to choose a provider: checklist

Checklist for vetting a TikTok agency account provider and red flags
  1. Legal entity and contract. There's a company and a contract, or at least written terms of service.
  2. Balance refunds. It's written down what happens to your balance if an account is banned or you stop working together.
  3. Status with TikTok. Does the agency work with the platform directly or resell someone else's accounts? Ask directly.
  4. Fees and top-up methods. Compare the percentage, minimum top-up and how fast funds arrive.
  5. Reviews. Look on forums and in chats, not on the provider's website. Stories about how problems were solved are especially valuable.
  6. Support speed. Message them before paying and time how long a reply takes.
  7. Test with a small amount. Make your first top-up the minimum, no "wholesale" deposits.

Red flags: a 0–2% fee with promises of "premium trust", no documents beyond a Telegram account, urgent requests to switch to a different payment wallet, delayed top-ups and silent support.

How to work without losing your deposit

  • Top up for daily spend. Don't keep a week's worth of money on balance; top up in tranches as campaigns spend.
  • Work with 2–3 providers. If one goes down, your funnels keep running with the others.
  • Follow ad policies. An agency account doesn't protect you from bans for prohibited content. With a temporary suspension, you have 30 days to fix the issues or appeal; after that, the ban becomes permanent.
  • Keep evidence. Account IDs, receipts and transfer hashes, chats with the provider — without them, you can't make a claim.
  • Watch for warning signs. Delays, excuses and changed payment details are reasons to withdraw what's left while you still can.

And don't forget about payments: if you run self-serve accounts, you'll need reliable cards. We covered how to choose them in our article on virtual cards for paying for ads.

FAQ

How is a TikTok agency account different from a regular one?

You register a regular account yourself and pay with your own card. An agency account is created by an agency in its Business Center, which gives you access, and payment goes through the agency. Agency accounts usually have higher trust and limits.

Can an individual get an agency account?

Official partner agencies usually work with companies. Agencies for media buyers and resellers often work with individual buyers too, which makes vetting the provider even more important.

What happens to the money if an agency account is banned?

You can't top up a suspended agency account, and getting the remaining balance back depends on the provider's terms. That's why it's best to put refund terms in writing before you start.

Does an agency account protect against bans?

No. It lowers the risk of a ban at launch thanks to higher trust, but agency accounts get blocked for ad policy violations too.

How much does an agency account cost?

Providers usually take a percentage of each top-up. Compare not just the percentage but also the minimum top-up, refund terms and the provider's reliability.

Verdict

A TikTok Ads agency account is a powerful tool for scaling, but your money in it depends on how reliable the intermediary is. Choose a provider by contract and reputation, not the lowest fee, keep only the working minimum on balance and split budgets across several agencies. That way, even a ban wave or a provider's problems won't stop your funnels.
