TikTok is launching Buy Direct — one-click checkout right from the For You feed, without leaving for the seller's website. Alongside it, the platform showed an AI shopping assistant that answers product questions and places the order in the same chat. TikTok announced both on October 5 at Advertising Week New York under the name Agentic Commerce. Here's what's known, what TikTok hasn't said yet and what it means for e-commerce affiliates.
What TikTok Buy Direct is
Buy Direct is a built-in checkout: a user sees a product in a video and buys it from the brand in one click without leaving the app. It works across the app, not only inside the TikTok Shop marketplace, as The Next Web points out.
TikTok is building it with commerce and payment platforms — Shopify, Stripe, Salesforce and Shoplazza. The company hasn't disclosed what role each partner plays.

The AI shopping assistant
The second part of the announcement is the Shopping Assistant. According to TikTok, it's a conversational AI agent that:
- understands context and remembers user preferences throughout the conversation;
- answers questions about product details, sizing, shipping and availability;
- helps complete the purchase right in the chat.
As TechCrunch notes, TikTok wants to keep the "research a product — buy it" moment inside the app, so users don't go to ChatGPT and other AI tools for product questions.
What else TikTok showed advertisers
- Agentic Leads — an AI agent that qualifies prospects in TikTok DMs and in lead forms on the advertiser's website.
- TikTok Ad Network is now open to US advertisers: nearly 400,000 apps outside TikTok.
- MCP connector: TikTok's ad tools connect to Claude, Perplexity, Manus, Kimi and Replit. TikTok says the number of advertisers using it has grown by more than 200% since launch.
- Automated search ads and accounting for costs such as affiliate commissions in TikTok Shop campaigns.

What TikTok hasn't said yet
The announcement is big, but many details are missing:
- Dates and markets. TikTok gave no launch date or country list. All figures in the announcement are US-only.
- Fees. It's unknown how Buy Direct fees will differ from TikTok Shop.
- Chargebacks. Who carries chargeback risk — seller, platform or payment partner — isn't clear.
- Link to ads. TikTok hasn't said whether Buy Direct will be a separate ad format or also works organically.
So bold promises like "CPA will drop" are premature — wait for the launch and the first tests.
What it means for e-commerce affiliates
- A shorter path to purchase. Each funnel step — going to the site, loading, cart, entering address and card — loses part of mobile traffic. Buying in the feed removes those steps and the losses on them.
- Creative matters more than the landing page. If the purchase happens in the feed, the video and the offer decide everything. How to make and test creatives: Creatives for affiliate marketing.
- Less control over the page. Your pre-lander and landing page no longer warm the buyer up — you'll have to sell right in the video.
- Analytics change. When the purchase happens inside TikTok, tracking through your own site works differently. Watch what data the platform will share — and do the math with the formulas in Affiliate math.
- Who benefits first: brands and stores on Shopify — that's who the integration is built with.
How to work with TikTok as a traffic source: Facebook Ads or TikTok Ads for affiliate marketing.

- Alongside it — an AI assistant that answers product questions and places orders.
