Visa and the crypto payments network Mesh have announced a partnership that will let people pay with crypto and stablecoins straight from their wallet, in stores and online, anywhere Visa is accepted. No cashing out to a bank card, no manual conversion to fiat, no separate exchange card. The announcement came on October 19, 2026. Here is how paying with crypto through Visa will work, whether KYC is required, how it differs from crypto cards and what is still unknown.
What did Visa and Mesh announce?
Visa's network covers more than 175 million merchant locations across 200+ countries and territories. The partnership is meant to make that footprint reachable directly from a crypto or stablecoin balance. Mesh calls it a first-of-its-kind collaboration: it orchestrates how each payment is funded and converted across crypto, stablecoins and fiat.
How to pay with crypto in a store through Visa and Mesh
- The customer pays from their wallet. The wallet or platform is connected through Mesh, which acts as program manager and handles onboarding and KYC. There is no need to withdraw, convert to fiat or preload funds.
- Mesh converts crypto to fiat. The conversion happens at the moment of payment, not in advance.
- The merchant gets a standard Visa payment. No new hardware and no changes to the checkout system. The customer taps their phone on a standard contactless terminal or pays online.
Behind the scenes a Visa credential is provisioned for the customer, so there is no separate card to carry.
How is this different from an exchange crypto card?
Today you can spend crypto on everyday purchases in two ways: cash out to a bank account and wait, or sign up for a card tied to a single platform. In both cases the user has to act first. The new setup removes both steps: the balance stays in the wallet and the payment goes through as a regular Visa transaction. A platform plugs into Visa through a single Mesh integration instead of building its own card program.
Is KYC required to pay with crypto through Mesh?
Yes. Per the partnership description, Mesh handles user onboarding and KYC, and the wallet is connected through it. Anonymous crypto payments in stores will not be possible under this setup.
Why now?
According to figures cited by Mesh from Crypto.com research, the world had about 774 million crypto owners by June 2026. Meanwhile crypto card volumes were around $1.5 billion a month by late 2025, a small share of overall payments. Mesh names Kalshi, Tools for Humanity, Félix Pago, Majority and KAST among its partners. The company was founded in 2020 and connects hundreds of exchanges, wallets and financial platforms.
What is still unknown about paying with crypto through Visa
- Launch date. Initial availability, supported devices and participating platforms will be announced later.
- Supported coins. The announcement speaks of crypto, stablecoins and fiat in general and does not list specific assets.
- Fees and limits. Conversion costs for users have not been disclosed.
- Country availability. Visa's reach does not mean the service will work for users everywhere at once; it depends on which platforms come online.
If you get paid or hold balances in stablecoins, this could eventually remove the cash-out step. But with no dates, terms or platform list yet, it is too early to build plans around it.
