The ad network shows clicks, the affiliate network shows conversions, and nobody knows what a campaign actually earned until both are brought together in one place. That is what a tracker is for. Here is how a cloud tracker differs from a self-hosted one, how to calculate the real cost for your volume, and how Keitaro, Binom, Voluum, RedTrack and BeMob compare on prices from their official sites (checked in September 2026) — plus a few more trackers from our catalog.
Why a media buyer needs a tracker when there is a pixel and network stats
The Facebook or TikTok pixel sees only its own traffic and only what it is sent. The affiliate network sees conversions but does not know which creative or placement they came from. A tracker sits in between and does four things neither of them does alone:
- Links the click to the conversion. Every click gets a unique
subid(click ID), which is passed to the network and returned by postback on conversion. You see revenue down to the ad, not "somewhere in the campaign". How the chain works is covered in the article on postbacks and S2S tracking. - Calculates ROI for any slice. Geo, device, OS, browser, creative, landing page, hour of day — with costs and revenue in one table.
- Distributes traffic. Split tests of landers and offers, rules by geo and device, swapping an offer without relaunching the campaign in the ad account.
- Sends data back to the source. Tracker conversions can be passed to the Conversions API and network S2S postbacks, so the algorithm optimises for real deposits or approvals, not clicks.
You can work without a tracker on one offer and one source with small budgets. Once you run more than two or three tests at a time, you start pausing profitable setups and scaling losing ones — simply because the numbers do not add up.
Cloud or self-hosted: the main choice
| Cloud (SaaS) | Self-hosted (your own server) | |
|---|---|---|
| Examples | Voluum, RedTrack, BeMob, PeerClick | Keitaro, Binom (also has a cloud version) |
| Pricing model | Plan + event bundle, overage billed per thousand events | Fixed licence, unlimited traffic, server paid separately |
| Getting started | Sign up and go | Needs a VPS, installation, updates (some vendors install for free) |
| Data | Stored by the vendor, retention depends on the plan | Stored by you, no retention limit |
| Best for | Beginners, those who do not want to manage a server, smaller volumes | High click volumes, teams, anyone who wants control over their data |
The key difference is the economics at scale. A cloud tracker's price grows with your traffic; a self-hosted tracker's price is almost fixed — only the server grows.
How to calculate the real cost of a tracker
In cloud trackers an "event" is a click, a conversion and, with some vendors, a landing page view. A simple estimate: daily clicks × 30 × 1.1 (headroom for conversions and repeat events). Example for 50,000 clicks a day — about 1.6–1.7 million events a month:
| Tracker | Plan for 1.65M events | Approx. per month |
|---|---|---|
| RedTrack | Builder, 2M events included | $69 |
| BeMob | Professional, 1M included + ~650K overage at $0.05/1K | ~$49 + $33 ≈ $82 |
| Voluum | Profit, 1M included + ~650K overage at $0.06/1K | ~$119 + $39 ≈ $158 |
| Keitaro | Starter, traffic not billed | €40 + server |
| Binom | Binom v2, traffic not billed | $149 ($104 billed annually) + server |
Now multiply the traffic by ten. At 500,000 clicks a day (about 16 million events) cloud trackers move into $300–800 plans plus overage, while self-hosted stays on the same licence — only the server grows. According to Keitaro's documentation, a server with 2 CPUs and 4 GB RAM is enough for up to 100,000 clicks a day; such a VPS costs roughly $10–30 a month at most hosts. The working rule: up to ~50–100K clicks a day cloud is often cheaper or comparable; above that, self-hosted almost always wins.
Main trackers compared: prices and limits
Prices are from the official pricing pages, September 2026. Check the vendor's site before buying: trackers change their plans and run promotions regularly.
| Tracker | Type | Price | What you get | Trial |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Keitaro | self-hosted | Starter €40, Advanced €72, Expert €104 per month | Unlimited traffic; plans differ by domains (1 / 100 / 500 with SSL) and users (1 / 1 / up to 5); API, Facebook, Google Ads, TikTok and Cloudflare integrations, landing page editor | yes |
| Binom | self-hosted and cloud | v2: $149/mo or $104/mo billed annually; Cloud: $299/mo | v2 — unlimited users and domains, lifetime data retention, free server installation; Cloud — up to 2M clicks a day | v2 — 30 days, Cloud — 7 days |
| Voluum | cloud | Profit $119, Scale $299, Start-up $539, Agency $799 per month | Profit: 1M events, 3 domains with SSL, 6-month retention, overage $0.06/1K; Scale: 5M events, 12-month retention | 14 days |
| RedTrack | cloud | Builder $69, Solo $141, Team $333, Enterprise $833 per month | Builder: 2M events, 5 domains; Solo: 5M, full API; Team: 20M, 5 users, 50 domains; overage $0.025–0.04/1K; Conversions API on every plan | 14 days |
| BeMob | cloud | Free $0; Professional from $49/mo; Business and Enterprise higher | Free: 100K events a month; Professional: 1M, overage $0.05/1K; Business: 10M, overage $0.025/1K | free plan, no time limit |
Annual billing on cloud trackers usually comes with a discount: two months free at RedTrack; Voluum and Binom also discount annual plans — see their pricing pages for the exact figure.
Other trackers in the catalog
Beyond the big five, our tracker catalog lists tools for narrower jobs (descriptions from the catalog cards):
- AlterCPA Red — a cloud tracker built on flows, with smartlinks and auto-optimised split tests; free plan with no time limit, paid plans from $15/mo.
- Zeustrack — a cloud + self-hosted hybrid aimed at teams, from €29/mo.
- PeerClick — a cloud tracker with several data centres, up to 5 team users and a one-week trial.
- AdsBridge — TDS and tracker in one, with a template-based landing page builder and a 14-day trial.
- Trackwill — a cloud tracker for teams with per-buyer reports, from $49.
- ThriveTracker — cloud and self-hosted versions, split tests and auto-rules.
- AnyTrack — not a classic affiliate tracker but end-to-end analytics that pushes conversions to GA, Facebook CAPI and ad networks automatically.
- AppsFlyer and Kochava — mobile attribution for app campaigns; a different class of tool, used alongside a tracker rather than instead of one.
Which tracker for which job
- Beginner, first budget, under 3K clicks a day: BeMob Free — 100K events a month at no cost, enough to learn postbacks and reports without paying for a server.
- Solo buyer, Facebook/TikTok, up to 50K clicks a day: RedTrack Builder or Keitaro Starter. RedTrack if you do not want to manage a server and need the Conversions API out of the box; Keitaro if you plan to grow in volume.
- Many domains (prelanders, rotation): Keitaro Advanced — 100 domains with SSL for €72 — or Binom with unlimited domains.
- Team of 5+ buyers: Binom v2 (unlimited users on one licence) or Keitaro Expert (up to 5 users). In the cloud — RedTrack Team.
- Hundreds of thousands of clicks a day (push, pop, native): self-hosted — Binom or Keitaro on a powerful server. Cloud at that volume costs several times more.
- Agency or large team that values auto-rules and ready-made network integrations: Voluum — expensive, but with the widest set of integrations and long data retention on higher plans.
How to set up a tracker: 7 steps
- Domain. A separate domain for the tracker, with SSL. Do not use the same domain for the tracker and your landers.
- Traffic source. Add the source template (Facebook, TikTok, Google and so on) — the tracker fills in the right macros: campaign, ad set and ad IDs, placement.
- Affiliate network. Add the network template and copy the tracker's postback URL into the network dashboard.
- Offer. The offer link from the network with the tracker's
subidmacro in the right parameter (each network uses its own:sub1,aff_sub,click_id). - Landing page or prelander. If you use one, connect it through the tracker to see lander CTR.
- Campaign. Link source, lander and offer, get the campaign URL and put it in the ad.
- Test conversion. Go through the funnel yourself or fire a test postback from the network and make sure the conversion shows up in the tracker with the right subid and payout. If it does not, the usual causes are in the article "Postback not firing: 12 mistakes".
Common mistakes
- Not syncing costs. Without costs pulled from the ad account (via API or manually) the tracker shows revenue but not ROI. Most trackers can sync Facebook, Google and TikTok costs — turn it on from day one.
- Different currencies and time zones. Ad account in UTC-7, network in UTC+3, tracker in UTC — and "yesterday" never matches. Use one time zone everywhere you can.
- Skimping on the server for self-hosted. An overloaded server means slow redirects and clicks lost before they reach the lander.
- Not counting events in the cloud. People pick a plan by clicks, forget conversions and lander views, and get an overage bill at the end of the month.
- Deciding on small samples. The tracker shows ROI for any slice, but a 30-click slice is noise. Cut placements and creatives only once there is enough data to decide. What to use as a baseline is covered in the article on affiliate payout models.
FAQ
What is the best affiliate tracker in 2026?
There is no single best. At small volumes cloud trackers such as RedTrack or BeMob are cheaper; at high volumes self-hosted Keitaro or Binom with a fixed licence win. Voluum is chosen by teams that need broad integrations and long data retention and are ready to pay for it.
Keitaro or Binom — which one?
Both are self-hosted and do not bill for traffic. Keitaro is cheaper to start (€40 vs $149) and splits plans by domains and users. Binom costs more but gives unlimited users and domains on one licence and installs the tracker on your server for free. A solo buyer usually does fine with Keitaro; for a team of several people Binom often works out cheaper.
Is there a free tracker for affiliate marketing?
Yes: BeMob has a free plan with 100K events a month, AlterCPA Red has a free plan with no time limit, and RedTrack has a free Relay plan — but that one is for e-commerce, not media buying. It is enough for learning and first tests.
What is an event in a cloud tracker?
Any action the tracker records: a click on the campaign link, a lander view or click, a conversion. Plan limits are counted in events, so actual usage is usually 10–30 % higher than the number of clicks.
Do I need a tracker if I use the Conversions API?
Yes. CAPI sends events to Facebook but does not combine network revenue, costs and multiple sources in one report. In fact, modern trackers send conversions to CAPI themselves, so the two complement each other.
How much does a server for Keitaro or Binom cost?
It depends on volume. According to Keitaro's documentation, 2 CPUs and 4 GB RAM are enough for up to 100K clicks a day; millions of clicks need tens of gigabytes of memory. An inexpensive $10–30 VPS is enough to start.
Can I switch from one tracker to another?
Yes, but historical stats do not carry over — export them in advance. The easiest way is to launch new campaigns on the new tracker while old ones finish on the previous one.
